Fee disclosure & recordkeeping notice

Tennessee law entitles a notary or their employer to demand and receive reasonable fees for notarial services, and does not set a fixed statutory cap on travel or convenience charges — but every fee must be disclosed to the client in advance, before the notarial act is performed (T.C.A. § 8-21-1201(a)).

If a fee is charged, the notary must keep a record — in a well-bound book or appropriate electronic form — of every notarial act, including the fee received, in the notary journal (T.C.A. § 8-21-1201(b)).

This tool produces an estimate for internal pricing purposes and is not legal advice. The final agreed fee is disclosed to the client before service and logged in the notary journal at the time of the appointment.
